World Series Prop Bets

One of sports’ biggest annual events, the World Series, is finally upon us and what better way to celebrate than some fun and exciting prop bets. Of course, you’ll probably be betting the spread for each game, but let’s face it. That can get boring at times. Why not mix it up with some props? Here’s a list of some good bets and my picks.

World Series MVP

Obviously this one depends on who wins the series, here are the favorites, according to Bovada:

Miguel Cabrera 5/1, Buster Posey 13/2, Justin Verlander 8/1, Prince Fielder 8/1, Delmon Young, Hunter Pence, Marco Scutaro, Pablo Sandoval are all 12/1

Watch for Austin Jackson in the series. He has been quiet so far this postseason, but he could be a dark horse pick for MVP

Out of these I like Posey and Pence for the Giants and Verlander and Young for the Tigers. Scutaro was MVP of the last series and it’s unlikely he will continue to hit as well in the WS. Cabrera is certainly not a bad pick, but you won’t stand to make much money, since he is only 5/1 odds. Posey is great because he’s a young player that hits all pitchers well and already has World Series experience. Verlander is solid because if the series goes seven games, he will likely get three starts and if he wins them all, he is a shoo-in for MVP. Pence and Young are guys that are just starting to see their bats heat up, so it could be the right time to go with them, plus you get more bang for your buck if you get it right at 12/1. One dark horse I like is Austin Jackson. Jackson can drastically affect the series as Detroit’s leadoff hitter if he gets hot and at 14/1, there is some money to be made.

Number of Games

Over 5 1/2 (-165)

Under 5 1/2 (+135)

This one should be pretty easy. Take the over here. Although the Tigers did sweep New York, expect a longer battle with the Giants, who have played the maximum amount of games in each series. The Yankees crumbled in a horrible hitting slump. The Giants are more resilient. Expect this series to go at least six games, possibly seven.

Game One Total Strikeouts

Verlander has 25 Ks in just over 24 innings this postseason

Justin Verlander 7.5

Barry Zito 3.5

I like the under on Verlander and the over on Zito. Verlander will likely get the win in game one and should definitely record some ks, but eight is a big night for anyone and although he has done it twice already in the postseason, I expect the Giants to put the ball in play more than the ice cold Yankees did. Zito is pitching well right now and if he can go at least six innings, four strikeouts is very doable.
