Hornets star Gordon Hayward set to miss 4 weeks with foot injury

The Charlotte Hornets have been able to drastically turn things around during the 2020-21 NBA season. They have done so with the additions of rookie phenom LaMelo Ball and veteran forward Gordon Hayward. Unfortunately, injuries have started to take a toll on this team on the rise.

According to Tim Bontemps of ESPN, Hayward is set to miss a considering able amount of time due to a foot injury he suffered.

Charlotte Hornets forward Gordon Hayward will miss at least the next four weeks with a sprained right foot. The team announced the news on Saturday.

Hayward signed a four-year, $120 million contract to join Charlotte as a free agent in November. He was set to make his return to Boston for the first time since leaving the Celtics in the offseason before he suffered the injury during Friday’s 114-97 win at Indiana.

The Hornets are well on their way to clinching a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Currently,  they sit atop the Southeast Division standings with a record of 25-23.

However, the team’s chances of being postseason bound could take a hit, with Hayward going down and likely being unavailable for the next four weeks. The loss of Ball was costly enough, especially as he changed the way the team played.

The East isn’t anything to rave about this season with the current seventh and eighth seeds sporting losing records. However, Charlotte could fall out of the playoff race even though they are sitting in the fourth seed right now.

Hayward is currently averaging 19.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game while shooting 41.7 percent from beyond the arc.
