The Denver Broncos have decided to part ways with veteran quarterback Mark Sanchez. After seemingly having the starting job a few weeks, Sanchez headed into a downward spiral and lost a lot of ground to eventual starter Trevor Siemian. Immediately after becoming a free agent, it didn’t take long for Sanchez to find a new home with the journeyman signing with the Dallas Cowboys, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.

The Broncos tried to trade Sanchez over the last few days, but couldn’t find a taker before releasing him on Saturday. A short time later, the Cowboys announced that Sanchez will be in Dallas in time for the first week of the regular season.

The Cowboys were desperate for a veteran quarterback after seeing their face of the franchise, Tony Romo, go down with another injury. Romo suffered a broken bone in his back earlier in the preseason after a hit from Cliff Avril of the Seattle Seahawks.

With Romo on the shelf once again, America’s Team was put in a difficult situation. The Cowboys were already searching for a viable backup for Romo and came up short recently with Nick Foles deciding to join the Kansas City Chiefs rather than to head for Dallas.

Fortunately, the Cowboys may have found a glimpse of the future in rookie quarterback Dak Prescott. The Mississippi State product has far exceeded expectations in the preseason and has many believing he may be the next in line behind Romo.

Apparently, for the time being, the team wants a reliable option at quarterback with Romo on the mend. Sanchez fits the bill and may either backup Prescott or immediately assume the starting role come Week 1 against the division rival New York Giants.
