Jaguars newcomer Tim Tebow proves he’s still as popular as ever

After a nearly-decade absence from the NFL, Tim Tebow will return as a tight end with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

According to Pro Football Talk, it didn’t take long for Tebow’s massive popularity to quickly resurface as his gear quickly became top-five selling merchandise.

All that shouldn’t come as a surprise, given that his jersey was one of the league’s highest-selling throughout his previous NFL stint. Tebow is a wildly popular player that quickly enamored fans behind his entertaining run with the Denver Broncos.

If Tebow can make the Jaguars’ 53-man roster, his popularity should once again skyrocket. It marks the first time that he will play tight end, which should come with expected hurdles with the transition.

Tim Tebow will have every opportunity to prove he can play the position, while the Jaguars don’t have a significant financial commitment. The 33-year-old is under a one-year, $920,000 deal.

He’s one of four tight ends on the roster alongside Chris Manhertz, James O’Shaughnessy, and Luke Farrell. His performance in next month’s training camp will provide a clearer picture of his potential role.

Nonetheless, there will be plenty of eyes on the situation given the nine-year gap since his last NFL game. If Tebow does play this season, it will put him alongside Doug Flutie to accomplish that feat.

After the 2012 campaign, he latched onto the New England Patriots but was cut before the 2013 regular season. He received another opportunity with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015 but was released after the fourth preseason game.
