Patriots QB Tom Brady admits retirement will happen ‘sooner rather than later’

New England Patriots star quarterback Tom Brady is heading into his 19th season with plenty of questions around his long-term future in the NFL.

The 40-year-old is now well into the latter half of his career. His retirement is a more prominent topic of discussion, despite finishing a campaign where he earned his third MVP award. With that in mind, Brady has acknowledged that he does see it getting closer to the time he will step away from the game. (h/t Mike Reiss of ESPN)

“I think about it more now than I used to,” the reigning NFL MVP said. “I think I’m seeing that there’s definitely an end coming, sooner rather than later.”

At the same time, Brady also stated in the interview that he still has the unwavering passion and love for the game. Adding that he hasn’t deterred the older he has gotten. He has certainly shown that through his play on the field. He is still performing at an elite level while taking the Patriots to their third Super Bowl in the last four years.

Brady has made it clear that he wants to continue to play well into his 40s. He has shown no reason that he can reach that goal otherwise. His play hasn’t declined by any means. This is in spite of coming off putting together one of the best seasons of his career.

The only certainty is that Brady is seeing the finish line approaching to his sure-fire Hall of Fame career.
