Patriots QB Tom Brady has ‘not committed’ to playing next season

The New England Patriots main concern during this NFL offseason was thought to be the uncertainty over Rob Gronkowski. Now it appears there’s a more pressing concern with Tom Brady having yet to commit to returning for the 2018 NFL season, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady still has not committed to playing in 2018. Even though people who know him believe he will be back for the coming season, league sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

Brady has said publicly that he wants to continue his NFL career despite now being over 40. The superstar quarterback has shown no signs of slowing down. Nor has the Patriots franchise which continues to be a perennial Super Bowl title contender in the AFC.

Although Brady has the desire to keep playing, those around him seem to want him to call it a career. His wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, has been lobbying for him to walk away from the game. However, Brady has been reluctant.

There’s no question that Brady wants to play football, but he turns 41 in August and wants to spend more time with his family, and there are people around him who would rather see him retire, sources told ESPN.

New England Patriots Futures

If Brady ultimately does decide to retire before the 2018 campaign, it will put the Patriots in a very tough situation and will completely change the team’s outlook for the upcoming season. New England will have a gigantic void at the quarterback position. It could be the beginning of the end of the Bill Belichick era in New England.
