76ers Add Another Proven Champion to LeBron James-Led Roster

The Philadelphia 76ers are continuing to stack their roster this offseason as the team is expected to sign veteran guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to a one-year, $3.9 million deal after his agreed buyout with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Caldwell-Pope spent one season with the Grizzlies, playing in 51 games and averaging 8.4 points, 2.7 assists, and 2.5 rebounds while shooting 41 percent from the floor and 31.6 percent from 3-point range in 21.3 minutes per game.

He missed the last 31 games of the season due to undergoing surgery to fix a misalignment of his right pinkie finger in February. Caldwell-Pope will bring a strong veteran presence, proven production, and championship experience to the 76ers.

His decision to join the 76ers likely stems from his connection to LeBron James, as the two spent several seasons together with the Los Angeles Lakers, where they won the 2020 NBA title.

Caldwell-Pope was also a key piece in helping guide the Denver Nuggets to the 2023 NBA title. Throughout much of his career, he has been a reliable 3-and-D player, but his shooting from deep has notably dropped over the last couple of seasons, falling below 35 percent in each of the last two campaigns.

Following another second-round playoff exit, Philadelphia has spent the offseason revamping the roster with significant acquisitions led by James and Jaylen Brown.

The 76ers also added depth with the free agent signings of guard Anfernee Simons and forward Dean Wade. Philadelphia will enter the upcoming season as an NBA title favorite and likely the top challenger in the Eastern Conference to the defending champion New York Knicks.
