AJ McCarron leading the Bills QB competition

As the Buffalo Bills’ quarterback competition plays out early in camp, former Cincinnati Bengals quarterback AJ McCarron appears to be pulling ahead.

Tyler Dunne of Bleacher Report was at Bills camp on Tuesday and reported McCarron is “the leader in the clubhouse” for the starting job. He also described Nathan Peterman as “bleh” while noting rookie Josh Allen has been a solid mix of amazing and awful.

This is somewhat of a new development, as Peterman was reportedly showing up as well as McCarron earlier this offseason.

The best possible outcome for Buffalo this year is that either Peterman or McCarron definitively proves they deserve to start. Allen is talented, but given what we saw from him the past couple of years at Wyoming he’ll get eaten alive by NFL defenses if he plays.

That being said, Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane recently hinted Allen could earn the starting job and noted the young gunslinger has been very impressive so far.

It’s anyone’s guess who’ll end up starting under center for the Bills in 2018. Hopefully, preseason games make that decision easy, because the last thing this team needs is a prolonged quarterback controversy right now.
