Andre Roberson Out for the Season

Oklahoma City Thunder guard Andre Roberson will miss the rest of the season with a ruptured left patella tendon. He suffered the injury in the 3rd quarter of the Thunder’s 121 – 108 win over the Detroit Pistons.

Andre Roberson (26), fell  awkwardly on his lower back with 4:33 and had to be stretchered off the court. Oklahoma City announced on Sunday that Andre Roberson had surgery to repair the injury. The player also missed 8 games earlier in the season due to patellar tendinitis in his left knee.

“He’s certainly a huge loss,” said Thunder Coach Billy Donovan.

“Everyone’s been able to see that since he’s kinda come back to us and what he’s been able to do defensively. And he’s found a way to be, offensively, a really effective player for us.”

Andre Roberson ended the game with 5 points and 5 rebounds in 22 minutes. In 39 starts this NBA season, he averaged 5.0 points and 4.7 rebounds. He also made an average 1.2 assists and 1.115 steals in 26.6 minutes per contest.

The 6”7 guard was named in the second team of the All-Defense last season.

“You don’t replace him,” Donovan said. “It’s no different than having a guy that gets 25 points a game and goes out. You’re not going to have one person go out and replace 25 points.”

Forward Carmelo Anthony was shaken by his teammates injury. He said it was “1,000% difficult” to “return to a competitive mindset after seeing one of your guys go down like that”. Anthony took a knee on midcourt while other teammates huddles around Andre Roberson.

“It’s a hard situation, to kind of be up close and personal with that like that,” Anthony said. “The only thing I did was kind of take a knee and pray a little bit and hope things go for the best at that point.”
