Anthony Davis To Play Restricted Minutes As Star Returns

Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis is closing in on a return, but is still some time away from full fitness.

ESPN reports that Anthony Davis is ‘days away’ from his comeback, although he’ll have to be eased back into action.

LeBron James has moved onto ‘light work’ in the court, however there is still no timeline for his return.

Anthony Davis has been out since Feb.14, while LeBron has been missing since March 20. In their absence, the Lakers have hung on. They are 14-15 since Davis got hurt, and 7-8 since LeBron James’ injury.

It’s a timely boost, but Frank Vogel warned his team still has to get results without Davis for a while.

“The biggest thing is conditioning right now,” Vogel said.

“He’s healthy. But having not played and not really being able to ramp up his physical on-court activity over the last two months, it’s going to take some time before he gets his wind under him and obviously, that’s the biggest thing. Because if his legs aren’t under him, we don’t want him to be at risk for re-aggravation of the injury or another injury. We want to keep a close eye on that.

“I don’t think we’re there yet, to be honest,” Vogel added.

“I know I’m not, my coaching staff is not. Even when Anthony returns, it’ll be in short, limited minutes … We’re still in a stretch where we’ve got to compete and win games for the most part without those guys.”

Vogel’s comments on James were a lot less optimistic. It remains unclear whether or not LeBron will be fit in time for the postseason.

“Just trying to do a little bit more with his activity each day,” Vogel said.
