Bengals Owner Mike Brown Mindful Of Big Extensions

The Cincinnati Bengals will have some tricky extensions to navigate and not everyone will get paid, according to Mike Brown.

The Bengals owner outlined his Super Bowl ambition, but admitted Cincinnati will have to pay for Super Bowl caliber players.

Linebacker Logan Wilson is in the final year of his rookie deal. DT D.J Reader is due to become a free agent next offseason. Of course, quarterback Joe Burrow will be up for an extension too after playing on year 5 of his rookie deal.

WRs Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd are both entering the final year of their deals. As well as that, Ja’Marr Chase will be up for a fifth year option next year.

“We have some good players that need to be fed,” Mike Brown said at the team’s annual luncheon on Monday, per ESPN.

“That’s a challenge. It’s mathematical. You get a bag of corn and you have 10 hogs. Well, you’re going to put that out to them. The bag’s going to be empty. And some of them aren’t going to get it.

“I have bound myself not to talk about Joe (Burrow’s) contract,” Mike Brown said.

“I don’t think it’s helpful for the negotiations. The other side has made the same commitment and they have not broken it.”

“I’m not looking for accolades,” he said.

“I want the team to be awarded. And if I were handed a trophy, I’d have it for about two seconds and then I’d hand it to (head coach) Zac (Taylor). And then Zac would do whatever he did. I would like that two seconds. I don’t care so much about stuff like that as I just actually want to get it done. I’ll know and remember when it’s done. And that’s the lifetime ambition.”
