Bengals RB Joe Mixon reveals why he took a pay cut to stay in Cincinnati

The Cincinnati Bengals are, without a doubt, one of the most talented teams in the NFL. They have arguably one of the league’s elite quarterbacks running the show under center in Joe Burrow.

The Bengals are currently in a championship window. As a result the team is doing everything within its power to get back to the Super Bowl and finally lift that elusive Vince Lombardi Trophy.

During this NFL offseason, the Bengals approached running back Joe Mixon about potentially taking a pay cut to give the team some more flexibility, and even though some players take that as a sign of disrespect and chose to leave the team, the 27-year-old embraced it and chose to do what’s best for Cincinnati, as he explained via ESPN.

“I see the task at hand and what we’re trying to build and in order to keep other players here and pieces here, sometimes you have to sacrifice,” Mixon told the team’s website in an article published Wednesday. “I felt like this year was the year to sacrifice on the Super Bowl team we can potentially be.”

With running backs not exactly getting treated the way they want to be in terms of compensation and long-term job security, this was likely a smart move by Mixon. He keeps his job on a legitimate title contender with everyone on the team on the same page.
