Blackhawks Star Patrick Kane Under Investigation For Rape

According to The Buffalo News, Chicago Blackhawks superstar right-winger Patrick Kane, who grew up in South Buffalo, is currently being investigated by law enforcement for rape.

Kane has not yet been charged with a crime, but Hamburg police are looking into the claim of a woman who says the four-time NHL All-Star sexually assaulted her. The accuser did have a rape kit performed at a local hospital.

The report cited two sources that spoke on the condition of anonymity. Hours after the story first broke, Hamburg police Chief Gregory Wickett has yet to confirm or deny the investigation to the media.

The Chicago Tribune immediately attempted to follow up with a number of interested parties, but haven’t gotten anywhere as yet:

The Blackhawks in a statement Thursday acknowledged the investigation but did not provide any details.

“We are aware of the matter and are in the process of gathering information. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this time,” the statement read.

An NHL spokesman declined to say when the league learned of the probe or whether it had spoken to Kane.

“We are aware of a police investigation and are following developments,” said Frank Brown, the league’s group vice president of communications.

Messages left by the Tribune for Kane’s agent were not returned.

A Tribune reporter was turned away from Kane’s gated home in New York Thursday morning. A woman who spoke through the gate’s intercom system declined to say if Kane was there.
