Blake Griffin Joins Brooklyn Nets Title Charge

Brooklyn’s shining roster just got a little bit more star-studded. Six more stars to be exact, with the addition of former All-Star forward Blake Griffin.

Five of Griffin’s All-Star appearances came from 2011 – 2015, with the sixth coming in 2019.

Blake Griffin (31) spent most of his career with the Los Angeles Clippers, and joined the Detroit Pistons in 2018.

In 624 NBA starts, Blake Griffin has averaged 21.4 points on 49.5% shooting from the field. He’s shot 33.1% from 3 point range and 69.5% from free throws. He has also averaged 8.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 34.7 minutes per game.

Griffin ranks 9th overall in the league in field goals (5,130), 10th in points (13,724) and 15th in rebounds (5,605). He’s been to the playoffs seven times, with six straight postseason appearances in 2011 – 2017 with the Clippers.

The Brooklyn Nets reportedly see him as a small-ball center alternative off the bench. He will be reunited with former Clippers teammate DeAndre Jordan.

“We’re fortunate to be able to add a player of Blake’s caliber to our roster at this point in the season,” GM Sean Marks said in a statement. “Blake is a versatile frontcourt player with a long track record of success in our league, and we’re excited about the impact he’ll make for us both on and off the court in Brooklyn.”

In his 20 games for Detroit this year, Griffin averaged 12.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists. While he is not the rim-attacking All-Star from before, he’s a solid playmaker and lethal from the three point line.

He joins a Nets team intent on making a push for the title this year with Durant, Harden and Irving.
