Brady Again Shifts Odds With News Of Upheld Suspension
A shock to many, Tom Brady’s suspension for his alleged part in the deflategate scandal was upheld and as the news spread odds in all sorts of props and futures got shaken up big time.
Many books yanked down their overall futures. Bovada shifted the Indianapolis Colts as the favorites to win the AFC conference with the New England Patriots now close behind. The Colts have a +300 line to the Pats +500.
Apparently the books are banking on people betting that four games without Brady will be enough to keep them just out of reach of the AFC Championship. However, the last time the Pats were without Brady for an extending period was when Matt Cassel led the Pats on an incredible run.
Meanwhile, the sportsbooks that are offering early betting on the Pats opening game against the Pittsburgh Steelers are adjusting their lines like mad. The Pats held on to their favorite status in their season opener but dropped from -3-point favorites to -1.5 favorites. The moneyline to bet on the Pats moved from -170 to -150.
The total has also been all over the place for this game. When it seemed that Brady’s suspension would not be upheld the total was holding steady at around 54 points. It now sits at 48.5 points without Brady on the field.
Brady’s suspension was first announced back in May and saw a sharp shift in their future odds of winning the Super Bowl. When it was revealed Brady would be contesting the suspension and many assumed his punishment would be lessened the odds shifted back in favor of the Pats. However, they have now took another turn down.
