Brandin Cooks: Jared Goff a “Natural Leader”

Quarterback Jared Goff has been making waves in Los Angeles. Jared Goff is excelling on the field and becoming a leader in the Los Angeles Rams locker room.

His play and personality has earned him many plaudits, and the latest among them is wide receiver Brandin Cooks. Brandin Cooks was traded from the New England Patriots in April, and should form a dangerous offensive partnership with Goff.

“You talk about a guy that’s a natural-born leader, who works hard throughout this offseason, throwing with each other before this all started,” Cooks said, via ESPN. “Now transitioning into OTAs I think has been great for all the receivers.”

Jared Goff was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams first overall in 2016. It would be his first year in the NFL as well as the team’s first season in Los Angeles. The Rams had failed to make the playoffs in the previous 11 years without a stable quarterback.

Coming off of last season, it appears that the Rams are a good match for Goff. He earned his first playoff and Pro Bowl appearances, and is thriving in Sean McVay’s offense.

Head coach McVay is effusive about his future franchise quarterback’s leadership skills. He commented that Goff “truly is becoming that extension of the coaching staff”.

Questions remain as to whether Goff can continue his development. Two key coaches, Greg Olson and Matt LaFleur, left for offensive coordinator jobs in the offseason. They will be replaced by Zac Taylor and Shane Waldron. Goff doesn’t see it being a problem.

“It’s two guys that were already on the staff so we have relationships so it’s not been much of a transition getting to know them. These guys just bring their own style to it,” he said.
