Brian Allen first Covid-19 Case as NFL Finally Plans for Contingencies

Los Angeles Rams center Brian Allen is the first known NFL player to have been diagnosed with Covid-19. The Rams announced the news on Wednesday night. 

“I talked to him yesterday. I’m really glad to hear he’s feeling good, he’s healthy and he’s on the road to recovery,” coach Sean McVay said. 

“I think we all understand that the severity of what this has meant for some people, fortunately for Brian, he’s on the road to recovery. I think he did a great job of letting us know right away so we could be timely in our response and making sure that we didn’t expose anybody else to that.”

Following the diagnosis of Brian Allen, the Rams completely shut down their facilities. The facilities will reopen again next week exclusively for players who are rehabbing. 

“We’re going to be real specific in segmenting it so that there’s still the social distancing where guys are far apart and really breaking it up throughout the day,” McVay said. 

“It’s a really small group of guys, so we’re being as smart and as sound with our decision-making while being able to carry on as close as you can with some of those rehab players.”

Brian Allen (24), started nine games for Los Angeles Last season before sustaining an injury.

Up until now, the NFL has been tone deaf in its insistence that it’s 2020 regular season will be unaffected by the pandemic. However, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday that officials are planning for all eventualities.

“I don’t know if it’ll be a one-third-filled stadium, a half-filled stadium or whatever,” said an anonymous league executive.

“The NFL is planning for everything from playing without fans to playing in full stadiums. We know there will be a push from the [federal] government to open things up.”
