Veteran quarterback Peyton Manning is currently in an awkward situation with the Denver Broncos. The one-time Super Bowl champion has lost his starting job to Brock Osweiler and will be a backup for the first time in his football career since his freshman year in college with Tennessee.

According to Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak, Manning is ready to get back on the football field heading into Week 17 against the division rival San Diego Chargers. Although Manning is healthy and available for Denver, the veteran will play the backup role to Osweiler via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk:

“Brock’s our quarterback — nothing has changed from that standpoint. [Manning] being available is a change,” Kubiak said. “[Manning] being healthy is a great thing for this football team, him being available.”

The Broncos will host the Chargers in the final week of the NFL regular season with high hopes of getting a win at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. San Diego has been arguably one of the worst teams in the AFC this season with only four wins on the season.

As expected, regardless of Osweiler being under center opposed to Manning, the Broncos are heavily favored coming into this matchup with the lowly Chargers. According to Sportsbook.ag, Denver is favored with a -9 point spread.

Philip Rivers and company will come into this game with an uncertain future looming over the team’s location. The Chargers are one of the three teams in contention to move during the NFL offseason along with the division rival Oakland Raiders and the St. Louis Rams.

Despite the fact this may be their last game as the “San Diego” Chargers, the Broncos should come out on top in this matchup while covering the spread with relative ease.
