Browns Coach Hue Jackson On Brock Osweiler: He’s Been A ‘Pleasant Surprise’
The Cleveland Browns made yet another interesting decision during the NFL offseason to acquire quarterback Brock Osweiler from the Houston Texans in a trade. The Browns were desperate for a quarterback and were thought to address that need early in the NFL Draft, but instead elected to bring in Osweiler and it may already be starting to pay off.
According to Browns head coach Hue Jackson, Osweiler is turning some heads in Cleveland as he’s been better than expected, via Pat McManamon of ESPN:
Hue Jackson had positive words for quarterback Brock Osweiler on Wednesday, calling the quarterback a “pleasant surprise” as the Cleveland Browns worked in Week 2 of OTAs.
Osweiler, who was a big disappointment for the Texans last season, signed a lucrative $72 million deal with Houston last year but failed to live up to expectations and forcing the Texans to make a move. Head coach Bill O’Brien wanted nothing to do with Osweiler and therefore chose to trade what the team thought was their quarterback of the future.
Now Osweiler is out to prove he is worth the enormous deal he signed with the Texans and will apparently have his opportunity in Cleveland. It will be no easy task for Osweiler moving forward as he’ll have to compete with former USC star Cody Kessler, rookie DeShone Kizer, and Kevin Hogan for the starting job.
Although none of those names mentioned would scare players with a deal as lucrative as Osweiler’s, Jackson appears to be holding an open competition for the starting job with some hungry players looking to secure their long-term futures in the NFL.
