Buffalo Bills Have Bright Future With Josh Allen

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott is confident his team can build around quarterback Josh Allen in the years ahead.

The Buffalo Bills have come off their best season in 25 years. The 13 – 3 Buffalo Bills won the AFC East for the first time since 1995. 

They also won their first playoff games in 20 years, beating the Colts and the Ravens on the way to the AFC Championship Game. It’s a sign that Sean McDermott is building momentum after four seasons at the helm. It was his third season reaching the playoffs with the Bills.

However, the Bills’ head of steam fizzled out in the defeat to the Chiefs in which they never looked like having a shot.

Coming unstuck against his mentor in Andy Reid, McDermott admitted Buffalo has a long way to go to match Kansas.

“There is still a gap in terms of where we are and where they are. It’s not just one answer that solves that problem,” McDermott said. 

“We all have to, starting with me, we all have to continue asking ourselves the hard questions of the what-ifs and the whys and the hows. We as a staff have to get better and improve, we have to improve our roster, we have to improve our operation and what we do.

“They’re in Year 8, and we’re in Year 4,” McDermott added. 

“But that’s a little bit of a feel for how long they’ve been building their program and where we are. There’s a lot that we’ve improved on in terms of what’s gotten us to where we are.”

If they’re going to bridge that gap, a lot will rest on the shoulders of Josh Allen. Luckily, Allen enjoyed his best season in 2020. He was selected to his first Pro Bowl after setting single-season franchise records in every passing category. McDermott believes his signal caller is a winner.

“I think that speaks well for the future of this organization moving forward. There’s not a lot of teams that can answer that question and say ‘yes, we have our quarterback,’ and I can tell you, and you’ve watched it, Josh Allen is a very good quarterback and one we can win with for years to come.”
