Bulls Making A Run To Build Their Own Big 3

The rumor mill has been churning to the point that it is no secret that the Chicago Bulls have been heavily courting the idea of picking up a big star to add to their roster.

Unlike the Houston Rockets, they are not wasting their time sucking up to Lebron James in the very unlikely case he opts to not resign with the Miami Heat. The Bulls have focused their attention on Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Love.

Earlier this week it was reported the Golden State Warriors were very close to closing out a deal to bring Love to California. That deal has now supposedly hit a snag. With that a source close to Derrick Rose had this to say according to the New York Daily News:

Rose’s preference is for the Bulls to work out a deal as soon as possible for Minnesota’s All-Star forward because he sees Love as more of a team player than Anthony. Chicago is in the mix with Golden State for Love, with Boston and Denver considered long shots. If it makes any difference to Melo, Rose has no plans to recruit Love, who is free next summer, either. But the Bulls already know whom he’d really prefer to play with in the future.

On the heels of the news that Love would be going to Golden State, a lot of sources came out of the woodwork saying that it was actually Anthony who would most likely land in Chicago.

It has been all but confirmed that ‘Melo will be opting for free agency. The New York Knicks can still make a play for Anthony, but it seems the Bulls have been getting into Anthony’s ear. It was said that Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau himself has been talking with Anthony.

Regardless of what happens, it has become clear that the Bulls are going for the Big 3 model that made the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics so successful in the past. If they do not trade Jokim Noah as part of the deal to acquire another star, it will be Noah, Rose, and either Love or Anthony as the last third of the Big 3 if the Bulls have their way.

It seems that Anthony landing in Chicago is the most likely scenario, as their are reports the ‘Melo has also been reaching out to Bulls’ players to see what it is like playing in the Windy City. At the very least, this indicates a strong mutual interest from both parties.

Whether or not the Bulls are successful in building their own Big 3, time will tell.
