C-USA Week-In-Review: North Texas Notches A Win And More

Carden

It was considered a quiet weekend in the C-USA. Despite what people were saying, there was still some hard-hitting football action, in the form of some big wins and big blowouts.

NORTH TEXAS 28, LOUISIANA TECH 13

North Texas got a very notable win over Lousiana Tech after Darek Thompson secured a touchdown pass and a rushing TD to help lead his team to victory.

North Texas snapped a record of 26 consecutive losses, winning two straight game for the first time since 2004.  Perhaps more important in the context of the present is they remain within distance of the top two teams in the C-USA West Division, Rice and Tulane.

EAST CAROLINA 55, SOUTHERN MISS 14

Despite their 3-1 division record,East Carolina contined to put its loss to Rice behind them and continued to make steps in overtaking Marshall in the division standings with a win against Southern Miss.

Shane Carden was the start of the show with 308 passing yards and three touchdown passes and a rushing TD.  Carden completed 30 of 37 passes.

RICE 45, NEW MEXICO STATE 19

Rice continued to establish itself as the team to beat in the C-USA with a blowout victory over New Mexico State.

Rice got a season-high 409 yards on the ground, giving Charles Ross a career-high 167 yards on 26 carries.  QB Taylor McHargue added 90 hards and three touchdowns on the ground plus 89 yards of passing offense.

This will be Rice’s final non-conferecnce game of the season, which means every game here on out is important if they want to keep their divison record intact, esspecially considering they are tied with Tulane as C-USA West division leaders.
