Camellia Bowl Betting Preview
The last bowl game of today (at 9:15 p.m. ET on ESPN) is going to be one of the closes, at least the odds makers seem to think so, when South Alabama and Bowling Green collide in the first Raycom Media Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama.
South Alabama is making its first bowl game appearance and sit at 6-6 overall this season.
Bowling Green has been in a bowl game the last three years. They sit at 7-6 overall this season. They lost their last three games to settle for that record. Â Despite their three consecutive appearances, they have not won a bowl game since 2004.
Bowling Green started the week as -1 favorites but it has since flipped in favor of South Alabama who now sit at -3-point favorites. The total is set at 54 points.
Both of these teams have struggled to cover the spread this season. Each team racked up only four covers. Bowling Green is 2-2-1 as underdogs while South Alabama is 3-3 against the spread.
The UNDER is 8-12 for South Alabama, while it is 7-13 for Bowling Green.
With Bowling Green giving up nearly 500 yards per game through the air, South Alabama has to be thinking of running a passing strategy.
Passing is not South Alabama’s strength, but they should match up well enough to Bowling Green’s secondary to get some movement down the field.
Bowling Green favors a more balanced offense and they are not likely to stray from that strategy. They average 5.6 yards per play on the ground and quarterback James Knapke averages about 300 yards per game in the air.
