Can the Clippers Come Back One More Time?

Los Angeles Clippers coach Ty Lue says his team can still reach the NBA Finals despite being down 3 – 1.

If the Clippers lose to the Phoenix Suns on Monday night, they will be eliminated, and history is against them.

Teams who lead 3 – 1 in the Conference Finals have gone on to win 95% of the time, historically. However, the Clippers have been the comeback kings in this years’ playoffs.

L.A was down 3 – 2 against the Dallas Mavericks in the first round, but went on to win in 7 games. Similarly, they were down against the Utah Jazz but progressed with four consecutive wins in the second round.

“We beat Utah and won four games in a row,” said Tyronn Lue. “So it’s very doable.”

Unfortunately, L.A  will be without Kawhi Leonard, who has missed six games in a row due to a sprained knee. Leonard scored 45 points in Game 6 against the Dallas Mavericks. Without him, they have a mountain to climb.

In spite of this, teammate Paul George doesn’t want to see Leonard rushed back.

“I can’t speak for him, to the health of Kawhi,” George said. “If he’s not 100, we don’t want him out there. I mean, that’s just as a brother, as a teammate. His health long term is more important than what’s going on now. I can’t speak on the extent of his injury or, you know, what he [can] and cannot give us. Like I’ve been saying, his health is just more important than anything else.”

“It’s going to be hard,” George said. “It’s going to be tough. But it’s got to be one game at a time. It’s win or go home.”
