Cardinals’ JJ Watt gearing up to face Texans for the first time

Star defensive end J.J. Watt is moving through his first campaign with the Arizona Cardinals. Watt is heading toward his first matchup against the Houston Texans. It’s a reunion which will spark certain emotions from the two-time Defensive Player of the Year.

However, the 32-year-old stated this week that he doesn’t believe that he will be playing against the same team he played for the first 10 years of his career, via ESPN.

“There’s obviously something more to it,” Watt said Thursday. “I don’t think that it’s what people may think it is because, I mean, you look at the roster and you look at the guys that are there, I mean it’s been so massively turned over that there’s only a handful of guys that are even there from last year that I played with.

“So, it’s not like, I’m like, ‘Oh, I want to go and beat my old team’ or ‘Oh, I can’t wait to face this guy,’ because it’s not the same team. It’s not the same organization that I remember and that I was a part of.”

Watt certainly holds a strong connection to the organization, but it isn’t the team where he helped push to consistent success. Instead, the franchise is moving toward a complete rebuild, falling toward a 1-5 record through the first six games this year.

He and star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins will receive a warm ovation from the fans and recognition from the organization. Watt will always hold a strong admiration toward the Texans.

Beyond that, the Cardinals are heavily favored to topple his former team to keep their undefeated start intact. The 1 – 5 Texans will do well to get a result.
