Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes suffers dislocated knee

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs

After suffering a gruesome knee injury on Thursday Night Football, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has reportedly been diagnosed with a kneecap dislocation.

According to NFL Network’s James Palmer, Mahomes suffered a patella dislocation but was fortunate to avoid any fractures. He will undergo an MRI to determine if he suffered any ligament damage in his knee.

According to Palmer’s earlier report, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach brought Mahomes’ father, agent and girlfriend into the locker room to be with Mahomes after he exited the field and was diagnosed by the medical staff.

While it’s excellent news that he avoided a potential fracture, the NFL MVP’s long-term availability remains up in the air. Given the nature of the dislocation, the team must determine if he suffered ligament damage to the knee.

The upcoming MRI will determine if he misses multiple weeks or potentially the remainder of the season.
