Colts DE Chris McCain charged with battery of a woman
Indianapolis Colts pass rusher Chris McCain is in a world of trouble off the field mere months after he signed a free agent contract with the team.
According to TMZ Sports, the 27-year-old former California standout has been charged by authorities in Los Angeles on two counts of misdemeanor battery after allegedly spitting on an unnamed woman and forcefully grabbing her by the neck back in January.
The player was an undrafted free agent of the Miami Dolphins back in 2014. McCain is fresh off a 2017 with the Chargers that saw him put up a career-high five sacks.
Despite this, the Chargers rescinded their restricted free agent offer to McCain, enabling him to sign with Indianapolis. Pure conjecture, but it seems this case might have had something to do with that decision.
On the field, this is no small thing for the Colts. The team was relying on Chris McCain to provide a pass-rush option on the outside. Off the field, he faces up to six months in jail and will certainly be subjected to the NFL’s disciplinary process.
