Conference USA Weekend-In-Review: Tulane Beats Rice & More

The Conference USA was shaking up a bit over the weekend as teams considered the best in the division took some losses.  The standings and odds also got shaking up a bit due to the crazy weekend in Conference USA Football.  Here is what you need to know about C-USA football after the weekend.

TULANE 36, EAST CAROLINA 33

When the two teams with the best standings in their respected C-USA division collided, it took three overtimes to decide a victor.

Tulane came into this game leading the C-USA West Division while East Carolina lead the C-USA East Division.  East Carolina was also the favorite in the odds to take the C-USA Championship.  However, it was Tulane who came out on top and now is also on top of the future odds.

The teams matched each other TD for TD over two overtimes.  Then in the third overtime, East Carolina’s Warren Harvey missed a 42-yard field goal giving Tulane the opportunity it needed to win the game.

These two teams could very likely meet again in the C-USA Championship if the future odds are correct, giving C-USA fans something to look forward to.

RICE 27, UTSA 21

Rice is still only one game behind Tulane in the standings with their win over UTSA.  The score seemed a bit closer than what the game felt as Rice took the lead in the second quarter and never allowed UTSA to catch up.

Rice’s defense stifled the UTSA passing game and Darik Dillard punched a 4-yard touchdown in the second quarter to give Rice the lead permanently.

MARSHALL 24, FLORIDA ATLANTIC 23

With East Carolina’s loss, Marshall secured a tough victory over Florida Atlantic and was able to overtake East Carolina as the No.1 team in the C-USA East.

Justin Haig kicked a 41-yard field goal as the clock wound down to zero to give Marshall a comeback victory over Florida Atlantic.  Marshall trailed by nine points in the fourth and was able to make the big comeback victory.

Marshall and East Carolina share the same win-loss record.  However, Marshall remains undefeated in the C-USA, so they are currently No.1 in the C-USA East.
