Dak Prescott Spent 4 Hours Reviewing Last Year’s Interceptions

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy says he’s gone over last season’s interceptions with quarterback Dak Prescott.

Dak Prescott threw 15 interceptions in 12 games in 2022, tied with quarterback Davis Mills for most in the league.

“Definitely, we spent some time,” McCarthy said Tuesday, via the team’s official website. “He was in for the captains workout (earlier this month). So he came up and spent about four hours with (quarterbacks coach) Scott (Tolzien) and I.”

“And we went back and looked at his decision-making opportunities and the interceptions and potential interceptions and just talking through it.”

Dak Prescott acknowledged his interceptions were a problem towards the end of last season. He even had a redemptive performance in which he inspired Dallas’ playoff win over Tampa Bay.

After that game, he said he had begun to abandon the basics of his game.

“I got away from the way I play this game,” Prescott said.

“Got greedy. Tried to just force some throws. Tried to take the big ones. And that’s not who I’ve been throughout my career, just taking what they give me, waiting on the big shot. I think it was uncharacteristic. It was a way for me to just dial back in.”

With a new OC, new quarterbacks coach and hopefully a clean bill of health, McCarthy predicts a big 2023 for Prescott.

“I thought Doug did an excellent job with the quarterbacks. But you know, the room will be different. Any time you have a new coach in there and it’ll be Scott’s new opportunity, too. But Brian and I will be in there pretty much full time so they’ll be getting that landscape laid too. But it’s pretty fluid.”
