D’Andre Swift Continues Eye Catching Start To The Season

The Detroit Lions remain noncommittal on how many reps third year running back D’Andre Swift will get this season.

However, they’ll have to clarify either through words or actions if D’Andre Swift keeps performing well.

D’Andre Swift ranked third in rushing in the league in Week 1 with 144 yards and a TD. He also led the NFL with a 9.6 yards per carry average.

His 3-of-3 targets for 31 yards in Week 1 were surpassed only by Saquon Barkley and Justin Jefferson.

Swift again caught the eye in Detroit’s Week 2 encounter with the Washington Commanders. In the opening quarter, he broke free for a 50-yard gain.

With time running out in the 3rd, he had a 22-yard touchdown reception after falling down and getting back up. He can’t do much more to impress his case upon defensive coordinator Ben Johnson.

However, Johnson wasn’t giving anything away in terms of how often Swift would be used.

“He certainly had a hot start for us we’d like to continue to build on,” Johnson said.

“We have a vision for how we want to use him. We might not want to share that publicly right now, but no, he’s certainly a big part of our offense.

“I think it depends on the week, but certainly, I think everyone has said it that’s talked to you guys, everyone knows, players and coaches, when the ball’s in his hands it’s usually a good thing for us,” he said.
