DeMarcus Cousins Fears ACL Tear After Another Injury Blow

DeMarcus Cousins could be out injured for the entire 2019/2020 NBA season after suffering a potential ACL injury.

The Los Angeles Lakers center (29) will have further tests on Thursday to determine if his ACL is torn. DeMarcus Cousins had been working out in Las Vegas on Monday. He had to leave the court after what appeared to be an innocuous knock with another player.

DeMarcus Cousins was signed by the Lakers this July, along with Anthony Davis to augment LeBron James. With those three, the Lakers were expected to challenge for the playoffs for the first time in six years.

Cousins has averaged 21.2 points and 10.0 rebounds over nine NBA seasons. Losing him is a blow for the Lakers.

Former teammate Draymond Green expressed his hurt over Cousins’ injury. It is his second major injury in three years, having torn his Achilles tendon during 2017/2018.

“One of my goals coming into this season was for DeMarcus to destroy everybody and come back and show how great of a player he is and get what I think he deserves,” Green told The Undefeated’s Marc Spears.

“I’m really at a loss for words about it. It’s one that really hurt me for sure.”

“I’m devastated for DeMarcus,” said Warriors coach Steve Kerr.

“It’s been a couple of years of hell for DeMarcus. … We are all crushed for him.

“Injuries are a part of the game,” Kerr later added.

“But when you are talking about a player who has now dealt with the two most feared injuries for NBA players — the Achilles and the ACL — each basically knocking you out for an entire season … to deal with that over a two-and-a-half-, three-year span, it’s unheard of. What a blow for him, for the Lakers. He is going to have to process it all, start all over again.”
