The Oakland Raiders came into the 2015 NFL season with a lot of promise. Many believe this could be the year the struggling franchise starts to turn things around after more than a decade of disappointment.

The main reason for optimism is Oakland is the revamped offense led by second-year quarterback Derek Carr. The Raiders showed flashes of talent on that side of the football last year, but ended up with only three wins, despite an impressive rookie season by Carr.

After getting crushed by the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 1, it seemed like the same old Raiders. Carr suffered a hand injury and the team was ultimately blown out at home, 33-13. Although Oakland was awful last week, this week was a different story altogether with the Baltimore Ravens coming to town.

The Raiders got off to a quick start with rookie wide receiver Amari Cooper scoring the first touchdown of his NFL career in the team’s first drive. Carr connected with Cooper on a 68-yard strike down the left side of the field. Cooper went untouched into the endzone and Oakland’s offense began to come to life.

The Carr-to-Cooper connection was just the start of the Raiders’ high-powered offense coming together. Oakland, and Baltimore for that matter, struggled on defense all day. Neither team could contain the opposing offense leading to 70 combined points scored on the day.

The Ravens were losing for the majority of the contest leading up to the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Baltimore then took the lead, 33-30, with a little more than two minutes on the clock. Carr then led the Raiders down the field leading up to this game-winning touchdown to Seth Roberts with about 26 seconds remaining.

With the Raiders coming up with the win at home, the team will head on the road in Week 3. Carr and company will face the Cleveland Browns next Sunday in what will be a matchup of two young teams potentially on the verge of turning things around.

Currently, the Browns are the favorites in the Week 3 showdown with the visiting Raiders. Cleveland is sporting a -4 point spread, according to Sportsbook.ag.
