Dion Lewis Solidifying His Role As No. 1 Back in New England

Dion Lewis one of the running backs for the New England Patriots described the big difference for why this season has been his breakout year.

The first is right to the point. He says he is playing this season, following the Patriots rout of 30-6 over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Lewis played a key role offensively for the Pats in the win.

Indeed the running back did not have much of a role during 2011-12 with the Eagles after being drafted during the fifth round.

Then his 2013 season was spent with Cleveland but he was on injured reserve when he broke his leg. In 2014, he was out of the NFL after the Browns cut him and spending a few days in Indianapolis.

He told reporters he has more maturity than before and he missed the game tremendously while he was not playing after having played since the age of 6.

Lewis is just 5-foot-8, but weighs 195 pounds. He also said he takes football much more seriously than he used to.

Against Dallas on Sunday, Lewis again helped to solidify himself as the top running back for New England playing in 43 of the teams 60 offensive snaps in comparison to only 17 for LeGarrette Blount and two by James White.

His catch and run of 10-yards that resulted in a touchdown to begin the third period was a highlight reel play for the NFL during Week 5.

In all, Lewis has played 197 of his teams 288 offensive snaps through Week 5 and is winning over the most important person in New England, coach Bill Belichick. He has also won over his teammates. Belichick said Dion has given the team a number of productive plays both rushing and receiving. He has gone inside and out and has been there for the team since the start of the season. He has become a very hard player to tackle added Belichick.

Tom Brady said that Lewis was unique and has done an exceptional job at running back making a huge impact on the team in a positive way.

Julian Edelman the Patriots speedy wide receiver was asked who was faster he or Lewis. The wide receiver said Lewis was the faster of the two.

New England takes its 4-0 record into Indianapolis on Sunday to face the Colts for the first time since the controversial Deflategate game. Things are much different since then with the Colts just 3-2 but still in first place in the AFC South.
