Dolphins release Rey Maualuga after arrest in Miami

The short tenure of linebacker Rey Maualuga in Miami has come to an abrupt end. The veteran was reportedly arrested in Miami Friday night on battery charges and will be waived by the Dolphins.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio was first to report the news with Andy Slater of 940-AM WINZ indicating the arrest was for battery.

According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins will release Maualuga.

A nine-year NFL veteran, Maualuga has played in six games (four starts) for the Dolphins this season. He was signed on by Miami after spending his first eight NFL seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals.
