Drew Brees Planning to Return for 19th NFL Season

Last Tuesday Drew Brees turned 40 and hopes to remain playing at 41. Brees, when asked about returning for his 19th NFL season, the star quarterback with the New Orleans Saints said he was pretty positive.

Later he added a more definite answer by saying he plans to play next season and make another run at the Super Bowl.

However, he added that his mind was not there at the moment, following the Saints overtime 26-23 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday.

His plan is to let everything settle in for a few day, talk with his teammates and coaches but he plans on being with the team next season.

Brees, when asked, said the fact he does not know the number of opportunities he will get to play in another Super Bowl makes the loss on Sunday even harder.

The veteran signal caller has one year left on a two-year deal he signed during the last offseason and just completed one of his best seasons since becoming professional.

He established the new record in the NFL for career passing yards moving past Peyton Manning, but he and his Saints’ teammates’ season ended suddenly on Sunday thanks in part to a no-call by the game officials late in regulation followed by an overtime pass interception by Brees.

Brees’ pass was similar to a pop-up in baseball after his arm was hit while throwing by a Rams pass rusher and the ball came down into the arms of John Johnson III a Rams safety. Los Angeles went on to kick a field goal that won the game just five plays later.

Brees finished the game with 249 yards passing and a pair of touchdown passes along with the interception.
