More details have begun to emerge regarding the rape allegations surrounding Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor. According to Philadelphia magazine, Agholor is currently under investigation by the city’s Special Victims Unit, the result of an accusation made against him by an exotic dancer.

Agholor was among several Eagles players who went to the Cheerleaders Gentlemen’s Club after finishing practice early on Thursday. The dancer told police that she was raped inside the club, which is just minutes away from the team’s practice facility, at approximately 3:00 p.m.

Through his attorney Agholor has patently denied engaging in “any criminal conduct,” adding they are “confident he will not be charged with a crime.”

Though all indications are the police are taking the investigation seriously, Agholor’s claims of a setup are certainly bolstered by the revelation from a potential witness. Per Elliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com:

“The source told NJ Advance Media that Agholor and a dancer at Cheerleaders Gentlemen’s Club in South Philadelphia agreed to go to a private room for an hour on Thursday afternoon, but the dancer left shortly after the two entered the room. The person with knowledge of the incident said Agholor had agreed to pay the woman $1,400 for their time in the private room, but the dancer left before the agreed upon time and Agholor paid her $800. The person said the dancer wanted the full amount.”

Witness testimony does seem to favor Agholor’s version of events at this point—a number of dancers at the club told their manager that he had done nothing wrong. Though we don’t know went on between the two behind closed doors, we do know accuser left the club shortly after the alleged rape without mention.

Police are seeking to obtain surveillance footage from the club at the time, which will hopefully provide some concrete proof one way or the other. The sooner the better for all parties involved.
