Eliminated from playoffs, Packers place Aaron Rodgers on IR

The Green Bay Packers were eliminated from playoff contention Monday night by virtue of the Atlanta Falcons’ win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

So it stands to reason the team wouldn’t want to risk further injury to star quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Without hesitation on Tuesday afternoon, Green Bay promptly placed the former MVP on season-ending injured reserve.

Rodgers returned this past week after being out since Week 6 with a broken collarbone. He proceeded to throw three interceptions in what was ultimately a season-ending loss for the Packers.

Without anything to play for in the final two games, there’s no reason to trot Rodgers out there. He can now focus on getting 100 percent healthy and being ready for the team’s off-season program.

Rodgers ends his 2017 campaign having completed 65 percent of his passes for 1,675 yards with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Green Bay — now at 7-7 on the season — will turn back to Brett Hundley for its final two regular season games.
