Shanahan Fired

It is Black Monday and their is currently a total of five coaches that have lost their jobs.  More are expected to be fired throughout the week as many coaches do not meet with owners for a few more days.

The most surprising firing was  Rob Chudzinski. He had only been with the Cleveland Browns for a year, as he was tasked with rebuilding the team. The Browns went 4-12 and rumor has it that Chudzinski and the Browns management did not see eye to and often butted heads throughout the season.

The least surprising firing was that of Mike Shanahan. Shanahan allowed his team to fall to last place in the NFL after benching his popular quarterback Robert Griffin III. RGIII and Shananan would often bad mouth each other in media appearance and could be seen arguing on the sidelines quite a bit. Many also place the blame of RGIII’s career stifling ACL injury on the shoulder of Shanahan after he allowed Griffin to play, despite knowing his knee was hurt.

Leslie Frazier was fired after he failed to figure out the quarterback situation in Minnesota.

Greg Schiano allowed his Tampa Bay Bucs to get out to an 0-8 start.  They look better in the second half of the season.  Player also publicly supported the coach, but it was not enough. Bucs GM Mark Dominik was also terminated.

Jim Schwartz’s was released after he allowed the Detroit Lions 6-3 record and a No.1 NFC North spot slip through his fingers.

That means there are a total of six head coach positions to fill in the NFL. The Houston Texans fired head coach Gary Kubiak earlier this month.

There are a few surprises in the who was not fired category. Jerry Jones has all but come out and said that Jason Garrett’s job in Dallas is safe, despite his again performing below expectations.

There is still no word on the status of Miami Dolphins coach Joe Philbin. Many expected him to go after their devastating and playoff eliminating loss to the New York Jets.

Speaking of the Jets, Rex Ryan looks as though he will be keeping his job. Multiple sources are reporting that the two sides began working on a contract extension after the Jets upset victory over the Dolphins.

Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak and Dennis Allen in Oakland are rumored to meet with management later in the week where they will likely lose their jobs.
