Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. makes it clear he doesn’t want to play preseason games

The New York Giants are coming off one of their most disappointing seasons in recent memory. The team was marred by injuries and never got back to form as a playoff contender in the NFC.

One of the main reasons for the team’s struggles was the absence of Odell Beckham Jr. The superstar wideout dealt with ankle issues all year long, starting by going down with an injury in the preseason. He was ultimately ruled out for the season in October after suffering an ankle fracture.

With Beckham now recovering, the perennial Pro Bowler made it clear that he doesn’t want to play in the preseason. Beckham said the following about how many snaps he’ll play before the regular season on his Twitter account.

Clearly, Beckham is over playing in meaningless games. It’s hard to blame him considering what he took to get him back on the field and then ultimately suffering the fracture which cost him the majority of the 2017 NFL season.

As for the Giants, the team’s brass is gearing up for what will be an important offseason which may set the team up for the next decade or so at the quarterback position. Eli Manning is more than likely going to return unless the team makes an enormous bid for Kirk Cousins in free agency, but he’ll have pressure regardless with the team expected to take a quarterback with the No. 2 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

USC’s Sam Darnold or UCLA’s Josh Rosen could be wearing a Giants jersey in Week 1 depending on what the Cleveland Browns decide to do at No. 1.

Following the disappointing 2017 campaign, New York’s odds to be a force in the NFC next season aren’t looking good. Unless there’s an overhaul which rights the ship immediately, the Giants will simply be battling for a playoff spot or maybe even another high draft in 2019.
