The Good and Bad of Major League Baseball

On Friday night, Trevor Story the rookie shortstop for the Colorado Rockies continued his torrid streak of power hitting. The Rockies rookie belted his 10th home run during April.

The two-run round tripper helped the Rockies to a 9-0 rout of the Arizona Diamondbacks. With his 10th home run over a period of just 21 games, Story has tied George Scott as the fastest two players to reach 10 home runs to start a season.

Story also tied Chicago White Sox slugger Jose Abreu for home runs in April for rookies with 10. Nolan Arenado a teammate of Story, who also had a home run, is deadlocked with Story for the lead in the majors for home runs.

Story said after the game that when everything is said and done this will be something good to look back on, but at this point, he just wants to win games.

Dee Gordon Suspended

Earlier on Friday, the bad part of baseball also reared its head. Dee Gordon the second baseman for the Miami Marlins was handed an 80-game suspension without pay that was effective immediately for his violation of the performance-enhancing drug policy of MLB, said the league earlier in the day.

MLB said that Gordon had tested positive for clostebol and exogenous testosterone two substances considered performance enhancing drugs by the league.

Gordon, in a prepared statement released later on Friday said he did not take any PEDs knowingly but would accept his suspension.

Gordon said that the worst part of the situation was that he feels he has let down all his teammates, the fans and the organization.

In his statement, he said he has been very careful to avoid any products that might contain a substance that MLB has banned and in the more than 20 tests he has taken during his career that he passed, has proved that.

One source said Gordon fought the suspension initially, but then following a win on Thursday by the Marlins dropped his appeal.

Gordon will lose $1.65 million of his salary during his 80-game suspension and cannot play in the postseason.

The news came after the Marlins completed a sweep of four-games on the road over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Don Mattingly the Marlins manager, who managed Gordon with the Dodgers for three seasons, said all the players and coaches love Gordon and will support him through the suspension.

Mattingly added that he has know Gordon so long that he feels like he is one of his kids so we will give him all the support he needs.
