Howie Roseman: Keeping Jalen Hurts ‘A Priority’
The Eagles are confident of investing in quarterback Jalen Hurts according to GM Howie Roseman, although they’ve been here before.
After an heroic Super Bowl run, Hurts is about to get paid to the tune of $47+ million a year. This is a big extension for a young quarterback on his second deal, and Carson Wentz comparisons abound.
Wentz signed a four-year, $128 million deal in the summer of 2019. Two seasons later he was let go and is looking for his fourth team in four years.Â

Sometimes circumstance dictates destiny. A knee injury interrupted Wentz’s best season and he missed their Super Bowl run. Jalen Hurts stayed healthy this year and cemented his status as a quality quarterback despite losing to the Chiefs.
Injuries continued to hamper Wentz and he never developed appropriately. However, sometimes talent dictates destiny. Wentz was unlucky, but always had a big mistake in him. Jalen Hurts doesn’t make glaring errors, his ceiling is clearly much higher. Howie Roseman knows this and is comfortable paying the big bucks.
“I think each example is on its own,” Howie Roseman said. “You’ve got to look at the individual player. That’s not to be critical of anyone we’ve given a contract to that hasn’t worked out, but I think, when we talk about Jalen, we’re talking about a guy that we have tremendous confidence in, a guy that we want to be here for a long time. And so, it will be something that will be a priority for us.”

“I think we have a good sense of what we need to do here,” Roseman said. “We have a little bit of time here, too, to kind of figure it out and get away and discuss that. But at the end of the day, the most important thing is keeping our best players here. And Jalen’s certainly one of our best players.”
