Isaiah Thomas Says Suns Gave Him A ‘Christmas Gift’ By Trading Him To Celtics

The Boston Celtics are reborn. Head coach Brad Stevens has helped rebuild the franchise in the wake of the departure of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Rajon Rondo. One of the main reasons for their success the last two seasons is the emergence of point guard Isaiah Thomas.

Two years ago, the Phoenix Suns traded Thomas to the Celtics and completely change the direction of the point guard’s career in the NBA. Thomas is now widely considered to be one of the best players at his position and has been named an All-Star in consecutive seasons.

Recently, Thomas comically thanked the Suns organization for trading him to Boston, via Celtics Twitter account:

Thomas has the Celtics cruising at this point in the 2016-17 NBA season. Boston is currently in second place in the Eastern Conference and only 2.5 games back of the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers with a record of 40-22.

Although Boston isn’t considered a legitimate title contender with the Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, and San Antonio Spurs seemingly being in a three-team race once again, the Celtics could surprise some teams in the playoffs if Thomas continues to play at a high level.

As of Sun. March 5, Thomas is averaging 29.5 points, 6.2 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game. Thomas is currently shooting 46 percent from the floor and 38 percent from the three-point line.
