Jameis Winston To Be Brees Protégé In New Orleans

The career rehabilitation of Jameis Winston will begin with him learning from “one of the best” in Drew Brees.

The new Saints backup quarterback has moved to New Orleans after five years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jameis Winston was drafted by the Bus with the No. 1 overall pick in 2015. While talented, inconsistencies plagued his time in Tampa Bay. In 2019, he threw for 33 touchdowns as well as 30 interceptions.

It’s fair to say that the Bucs corrected that issue by signing the most consistent quarterback in recent history in Tom Brady.

Jameis Winston will have the chance to compete against his former team and Tom Brady this year. Luckily, he will have another all time great quarterback in Drew Brees to learn from.

“It was a time for me to learn from one of the best,” Winston said.

“And also being in the same division, I get a chance to play against Tampa Bay twice and get a chance to play some of the same teams even though Carolina has a new head coach. So, that was a positive there.”

“I can’t wait to compete against them,” Winston said.

“It’s going to be fun. I know Tom is going to bring his relentlessness and his attitude there, but it’s going to be fun and we’re ready to compete. We’ve always been competing. When I was at Tampa, we got them sometimes and they got us sometimes. Last year they swept us, so I know they’re going to try and come and get us this year, but I’m in that black and gold now, so I’m gonna be like, ‘Who Dat? Who Dat say they gone beat them Saints?'”
