James Harden Pushing Chris Paul out of Houston?

One of James Harden or Chris Paul is about to leave the Houston Rockets, if reports are to believed.

News on Tuesday indicated that the relationship between the two NBA stars has reached a breaking point.

James Harden and Chris Paul apparently didn’t speak to one another for two months this season. The Rockets team dynamic suffered as a result.

The Houston Rockets fell to the Golden State Warriors in the second round of the playoffs. It was the second year in a row that happened, leaving the door open for acrimony to flourish.

Chris Paul allegedly requested a trade to get away from James Harden. Harden himself apparently told the Rockets front office staff that the duo need to be separated.

An NBA source spoke to Yahoo Sports about the situation.

“There’s no respect at all, on either side,” the source said.

“They need to get away from one another. Chris doesn’t respect James’ standing in the league, and James doesn’t respect the work Chris has put in to this point.

“It can’t be fixed,” another source said about the pair’s relationship.”

Chris Paul will likely be the one to lose out. Harden is coming off of one of his most productive NBA seasons ever. He practically carried the Rockets through large parts of the season.

His ‘him or me’ ultimatum to the Rockets organization probably spells the end for Paul. As well as that, Paul’s injury record makes him hard to move on.

In the last two seasons, Paul only made 58 regular season appearances for the Rockets.

Another complicating factor is his contract. Paul has three years remaining on a $160 million contract. Given his veteran status, the nine-time All Star will struggle to find a new team.
