Jason Witten un-retires, re-joins the Cowboys

Jason Witten, Cowboys

Jason Witten’s one-year stint as a broadcaster for ESPN didn’t go well,  It’s one of the reasons why he opted to return to the Dallas Cowboys in an announcement earlier this week that sent shock waves throughout the NFL.

Despite his struggles in the booth, there’s very little reason to believe Witten doesn’t have the football knowledge to continue a career in the game once he calls it quits for good.

In talking about the return of his future Hall of Fame tight end, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones kept open the possibility that Witten could ultimately coach in Dallas.

“He’s going to be here in the future, whether it’s on the field or coaching,” Jones said when asked if Witten was a coach in waiting, via ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

Having signed a one-year contract, we wouldn’t be surprised if Witten somehow finds himself on the sideline in a coaching role for Dallas in 2020. That seems to fit him best when it comes to a post-football career.

For now, Witten will act as a safety valve for quarterback Dak Prescott in hopes of bringing Dallas that first Super Bowl title in nearly a quarter-century.
