Jets LB Lorenzo Mauldin arrested after nightclub assault incident

New York Jets linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin has reportedly turned himself in to police and has been charged with misdemeanor assault in connection with an alleged nightclub incident in April.

According to TMZ Sports, “Law enforcement sources confirm the 24-year-old turned himself into authorities Wednesday morning in Manhattan.”

The incident Mauldin is being arrested for allegedly occurred on April 2 in a night club in New York. He’s accused of punching a man, Jean Lopez, in the face after the alleged victim spilled champagne on him.

TMZ Sports reports Mauldin could face up to a year in jail if he’s convicted.

Lopez has already filed a civil case against Mauldin. He suffered “multiple maxillofacial fractures” and needed “numerous plates” installed to repair the damage, according to his lawyer, per the New York Post.

“It was not a fight, it was an attack,” his lawyer Glenn Race said. “He had surgery, he still has numbness on the affected side in his mouth area and traveling up to his ear. It’s a bad injury.”

Drafted in the third round out of Louisville in 2015 by Jets, Mauldin has appeared in 26 games, starting four, and has 6.5 sacks in his career.
