Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold Headed to the NFL

Quarterbacks Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold were compared quite often to one another while the starting quarterbacks for the top two Los Angeles college football programs. The two will see even more comparisons as they move forward after they both decided to leave school early and enter this year’s NFL draft.

UCLA’s Rosen announced he was entering the draft with a tweet on Twitter. While USC’s Darnold used his Instagram account to tell everyone of his decision.

With both signal callers opting to declare for the NFL draft, the Cleveland Browns can now start trying to determine which one best fits the team’s needs. They will pick first in this year’s NFL draft after going 0-16 in the just completed NFL regular season.

Darnold posted a video on Instagram thanking family, friends, the coaching staff at USC, and in particular Clay Helton his head coach, for trusting a quarterback with very little game tape and giving him the chance and opportunity to start at quarterback for such a great university.

During the just completed 2017 college football season Rosen’s stats were impressive for a team that finished 6-7. The UCLA quarterback passed for 3,755 yards, 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Darnold’s stats were very similar with 4,143 yards passing, 26 touchdowns and 13 interceptions on a USC team that finished the season 11-3 and lost in the Cotton Bowl to Ohio State.

Rosen did not play in UCLA’s loss in the Cactus Bowl against Kansas State. He had sustained a concussion during the Bruins’ last game of the regular season and had not fully recovered in time to play.

It was Rosen’s second concussion sustained in the 2017 regular season; he sat out the team’s loss on November to Utah.

NFL Draft

In his tweet to announce his decision, Rosen said he wished he and his teammates at UCLA had won more games, but memories and friendships were made that will remain for a lifetime.

Football pundits have listed Rosen as the No. 1 quarterback eligible for the draft, while most have Darnold right behind Rosen on their mock drafts. However, some football analysts have Darnold going to Cleveland over Rosen even though he is considered the No. 2 single caller in the draft.

Rumors have surfaced that Rosen prefers not to be picked by the Browns, who are likely going to pick a quarterback No. 1 in the draft.
