Karlos Williams has Concussion, Could Miss Buffalo Game vs. Titans

The Buffalo Bills announced on Tuesday that running back Karlos Williams had suffered a concussion during their game and is currently day-to-day as the Bills prepare for their Week 5 game versus the Tennessee Titans.

The rookie Williams was drafted out of Florida State in the fifth round by Buffalo. He was filling in for LeSean McCoy the injured star running back for Buffalo.

Williams had 40 yards rushing on 18 carries and scored a touchdown on a 23-yard reception during the loss the Bills suffered at the hands of the Giants 24-10.

McCoy will not play in Week 5 due to an injured hamstring.

Williams now must enter the mandatory NFL concussion protocol. He must be cleared by NFL doctors before he can return to any physical activity at practice or a game.

Bills officials said that Williams told team trainers following the game he did not feel well and he was then examined by the medical staff of the team.

He was then put through more evaluations late Monday and it doctors then determined that he suffered a concussion.

Therefore, team officials said they would have to follow Williams’ condition during the week to see if he passes protocol so he can play against Tennessee.

If McCoy and Williams are unable to play on Sunday versus the Titans, Buffalo would then have to insert Cierre Wood or Boobie Dixon at the running back spot.

Team officials said the club could sign more running backs during the week and there was the possibility the Bills would be targeting Bryce Brown a player Buffalo released last month.

Team officials said they would see if they could add a few players to help with depth, but they also have complete confidence in the players on their roster and in this case in Wood and Dixon as they know the system and will be able to fill in more seamlessly than any new player.

Williams could play by Sunday if he can pass the protocol at some point prior to the game, which would help the Bills, as there is a big drop off between he and the other two.

In Week 3, Williams had 110 yards rushing in the Bills win against Miami. McCoy spoke to reporters during last week and told them he would not be playing until he felt 100% after he suffered an injury setback a few weeks ago when recovering from his hamstring problem.

Buffalo is 2-2 on the season and in third place in the AFC East trailing the New York Jets by one game and the New England Patriots by 2 and cannot afford to drop back in the standings.
