Last season turned out to be a nightmare scenario for superstar Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder. The one-time NBA MVP was coming off winning the regular-season award he coveted with expectations of contending for a title, but things didn’t go as planned due to a foot injury that required multiple surgeries.

Fortunately, Durant is healthy, ready to get back on the basketball floor and as confident as ever. Durant recently claimed he is the best player in the world, according to Vincent Goodwill of CSN Chicago:

Heading into next season, Durant will be highly motivated to get back on track for a few different reasons. The Thunder will be at that point where it’ll basically be win or consider breaking up the team and starting over. Oklahoma City is still considered to be a serious force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference, but questions remain about Durant’s health and if he’ll ever be the same after the foot surgeries.

Perhaps Durant’s main motivation will be his future after next season. Durant will become an unrestricted free agent next summer with no shortage of suitors set to pursue the perennial All-Star forward. The Thunder brass will have their work cut out for them to keep Durant if he’s healthy, has a solid bounce back year and Oklahoma fails to win a title or reach the NBA Finals.

Durant remaining confident after all he has gone through over the past year or so is a good sign for Oklahoma City and bad sign for the rest of the West. Currently, the Thunder has 18/5 odds to win the conference and 17/2 to win it all, according to Sportsbook.ag.
