Klay Thompson: I Plan On Playing a Long Time

Golden State star Klay Thompson says he plans on playing for a long time despite two severely damaging injuries.

The Warriors swingman is in the midst of his second consecutive missed season after tearing his Achilles tendon in November.

Klay Thompson also missed the entire 2019 – 2020 season after tearing his ACL in the 2019 NBA Finals against Toronto.

An ACL tear and an Achilles tear are two of the most traumatic injuries a professional athlete can sustain. Sure, these days it’s not a career ending sentence. However, players that get these injuries often don’t come back as the same force.

However, that’s not what’s bothering Klay Thompson. What eats away at him is not even being able to take to the court right now.

“I’m living good,” Thompson said.

“To be back in the building that I’m so eagerly awaiting to play in. Just a little bored at times. Stuff’s slow with trying to let my Achilles heal and get to the next stage, which is mobility work, but I’m feeling good. I’m happy to be with my teammates, obviously.

“Unfortunately, I’m not playing. It kills me every day, but I plan on playing for a long time, and I don’t want to have any mishaps come this rehab.”

Thompson is a big miss for a Warriors franchise that is rebuilding around younger players. He, along with Steph Curry, was supposed to help guide them through the process. All the more frustrating is the fact that he tore his Achilles during a practice session.

The noise coming out of Golden State over the summer was that they could return to championship contention. With the loss of Thompson, those hopes are dashed for now.

Until he comes back, the once great dynasty is going to have to find other solutions.
